Ia Modin is a Swedish advokat with over twenty years of experience at the intersection of law, innovation, and the commercialisation of intellectual assets. Her legal practice covers the drafting and negotiation of complex agreements, collaboration structures, and licensing models. Her work addresses the operational gap between legal agreements and the management of the information they govern — the space where commercial value is created or lost. She has developed an analytical framework centred on the interdependence of contractual undertakings, intellectual assets management, and value creation, using maturity models to help organisations identify their internal gaps and to build, over time, the strategic capability to lower risk exposure, and to make their intellectual assets operational for innovation.
Ia Modin works with both established companies and growth-oriented enterprises across sectors where intellectual assets are central, including the life sciences and health sectors, metals and mining, deep-tech, energy, pulp and paper, and the creative industries. She also advises innovation intermediaries, government agencies, research institutions, and actors in the innovation support system.

Ia Modin contributes to academic and policy discourse on information governance and the legal architecture of innovation ecosystems. She speaks regularly on European competitiveness, innovation policy, and the strategic management of intellectual assets. She is a co-author of a forthcoming book on Innovation Commons, building on the works of Elinor Ostrom and Jason Potts.

Ia Modin currently serves as President of LES Scandinavia and is a former Co-Chair of the LESI CEEM Committee.
