Sylvain Roy is an attorney specializing in intellectual property transactions, monetization of intangibles, and IP valuation, with over 30 years of experience advising operating tech companies, research institutions, and government entities across Canada, Switzerland, the United States, and Europe.
As founder of SRA, a Montreal-based law firm, he counsels early-stage ventures to established enterprises, with a focus on complex IP transactions and corporate structuring. Sylvain is also active in early-stage venture valuation. He developed the proprietary BVM (Backward Valuation Method) framework and is founder and CEO of SRV, which uses BVM to provide benchmark-driven valuation clarity for ventures (Pre-Seed through Series C), serving founders, venture capitalists, and advisors globally.
His institutional experience includes five years as external advisor to EPFL Technology Transfer Office and multiple engagements with CERN. He co-authored Business Secrets Management (Springer Nature, 2025).
Sylvain is a guest lecturer at CEIPI Strasbourg, HEC Montréal, Université de Neuchâtel, and WIPO. At LESI 2026 Dublin, he will participate in the roundtable discussion titled Distillation: When copyright meets trade secret in an AI world.
