Richard Vary is a partner at Bird & Bird. He works on SEP and FRAND cases and has done now for 20 years.

Before Bird & Bird he was VP and Head of Litigation at Nokia, where for 10 years he managed Nokia’s SEP litigation, from when Nokia was the largest phone manufacturer in the world, through the transition to becoming a billion dollar SEP licensing business. He has twice been named as one of the 50 most influential people in IP, and has on several occasions won Patent Lawyer of the Year.

He is a part time district judge in the UK’s Intellectual Property Enterprise Court.
